Part 1: What is Brigandine Grand Edition? (And Why Two Discs?)
Before diving into the patch, we must understand the source material. Brigandine Grand Edition was released exclusively in Japan for the PlayStation in 2000. It is not a sequel but a massive rebalance and expansion of the original Legend of Forsena.
- 2001-2005: Small hex-editing attempts. Nothing playable.
- 2008-2012: A group known as "Dynamic-Designs" (famous for Front Mission 5 translation) picked up Brigandine GE. They released a partial patch for Disc 1 but vanished before finishing Disc 2.
- 2016-2018: A lone hacker named "Satsu" (or community member "XenoPhoenix") began reverse-engineering Disc 2. The major issue was the pointer table – the code that tells the game where text starts and ends. Disc 2 used a compressed format that was different from Disc 1.
- 2021-2023: The "Brigandine Revival Project" on GitHub emerged. This is the current working version that most people refer to when they mention Disc 2 English patch work.
