Before this collection, Portuguese readers relied on fragmented Spanish translations or outdated 19th-century versions. The Coleção Patrística introduced a direct translation from critical editions of the original texts (such as the Sources Chrétiennes and the Corpus Christianorum). Each volume includes an extensive introduction, explanatory footnotes, and indices, making the ancient texts accessible to bishops, pastors, seminarians, philosophy students, and lay enthusiasts.
