John Explains What's New in the Current Titles

With years of experience across schools, community colleges, and universities, my primary goal has always been to offer the best-in-class material to my colleagues and students. In a rapidly changing world, it’s crucial that textbooks evolve as well. I believe that timely updates to book editions are essential to ensure relevance and accuracy, reflecting new knowledge. Welcome to the John Macionis website, which encourages us to see the path to change. Perhaps you are a college or university teacher, perhaps you are a student, but almost certainly you are a person concerned about the state of our world.
The goal of all our publishing has always been quality without compromise. To achieve this objective, I am personally involved in all aspects of developing our texts. Beyond doing all the writing, I work on design and production, which includes the selection of all images.

EL HOMBRE DE LA TIERRA: Una película que cambiará tu perspectiva sobre la humanidad

Tone & Style

Acción práctica: Entregar rúbricas para evaluación (claridad argumental, uso de evidencia, creatividad, ejecución técnica).

The film is presented as a single, unbroken take from a worn-out consumer-grade camcorder. The protagonist, identified only as El Hombre (a gaunt, middle-aged man with dirt under his fingernails), speaks directly to the camera in a low, monotone Spanish.

Writer: Jerome Bixby, a renowned sci-fi writer for Star Trek and The Twilight Zone, who finished the script on his deathbed.

The Man from Earth (2007) is a minimalist science fiction drama that takes place entirely in one room during a farewell party. The story follows Professor John Oldman, who reveals to his skeptical colleagues that he is a Cro-Magnon who has survived for 14,000 years. Core Premise & Plot What we can learn from analysing 'The Man From Earth'

John has a new book on nutrition and health that is changing lives!

This short book can change your life, just as Myrna’s science has changed my life and the lives of so many others. Available in print edition or download immediately as a (very low-cost) e-book. Also suitable for classroom use as general education (this nutrition puts young people on the path to a longer and heathier life) or for any course discussing obesity, nutrition, health, aging, and prevention of illness. The book is available from Amazon, Barnes & Noble, or other book outlets. Read more at this website: leanlong.life

Some Tunes: A Gift to You

One of my favorite pastimes is music, playing as well as listening. Some years back, I spent time in a local recording studio performing oldies tunes that have stayed with me over the years. The link below will take you to the music page of this site. There, you will find one of the CDs from that time, featuring nineteen of my favorite “covers.” Grab your headphones! I hope you enjoy listening to these songs.

Video Lecture on Economic Inequality

Here is a forty minute video lecture that examines income inequality beginning with my own Kenyon campus and then investigates broader patterns of inequality in diverse work settings, including education, medicine, and the world of finance. The presentation also contrasts public perceptions to the reality of wealth inequality.
