Skipping the Warnings: The FMTV has 40+ warning boxes about “Death or serious injury.” For example, never tilt the cab without removing the spare tire first. The TM explicitly warns the cab will contact the tire, causing a hydraulic lock failure and crushing the mechanic.
Ignoring the “P” Manual: The parts manual (XXP) contains Exploded View Diagrams. These are better for understanding assembly than the text in the maintenance manual. Use the -20P to see how the parking brake shoes fit together.
Not Updating Changes: TM 9-2320-365-20 has multiple “Changes” (Change 1, 2, 3). Always check the change page. Later changes often supersede earlier torque values (especially on drive shaft bolt torque).
