How to Install the R2R Root Certificate (2021 Guide)
If you are trying to launch audio software or plugins released by the R2R team and are suddenly greeted with a "Certificate Error" or a message saying the publisher cannot be verified, you are not alone.
Locate the File: Find R2RCA.cer (the root certificate) and R2RCERTEST.exe (the test tool) in your download package.
Security note (concise): Only install this root if you absolutely trust Team R2R and understand the risk of adding a new trusted root.
Installing a root certificate gives the issuer significant authority over your system's trust. Only install certificates from sources you fully trust, as a compromised root certificate can potentially be used to spoof secure websites or software. Microsoft Learn remove or uninstall the certificate if it's no longer needed?
- Click the Browse... button.
- Select Trusted Root Certification Authorities.
- Click OK.
Check File Properties: Right-click any R2R-signed file, go to Properties, and check the Digital Signatures tab. It should show a valid signature without errors.
Method 2: Using the MMC Console (If Method 1 Fails)
If the right-click method doesn't work or you prefer the "pro" way, use the Microsoft Management Console.
