Maintenance Checklist
- After Every Rain: Retract the canopy immediately. Do not store the unit wet. The aluminum frame is rust-proof, but the stitching can develop mildew.
- Lubrication: The RBZ joints should be sprayed with a dry Teflon lubricant every 10 setups.
- Storage: Always fold the fabric inward. Exposed UV rays will degrade the 420D fabric after 2-3 years of daily use. Storage bags should be kept in a climate-controlled garage, not a hot shed.
- Dusty decks
- Wet or frost-covered wood
- Loose nail heads
Verdict: You must sweep/blow the roof perfectly clean. This adds prep time that felt paper does not require.
- Inspect substrate: Remove loose debris, ensure roof edges can accept anchors without further damage.
- Anchor to structure when possible: Fasten to rafters, blocking, or fascia rather than solely to shingles to prevent uplift failure and limit shingle damage.
- Overlap direction: Install so that water sheds naturally; field overlap should be uphill-to-downhill.
- Flash and seal penetrations: Use manufacturer-supplied boots, collars, or compatible flashing to wrap vents and chimneys.
- Temporary only: Plan permanent repairs within the product’s rated life. Log installation date and monitor condition monthly.
Note: The first time you set it up, it might take 3 minutes. By the third use, you will beat the 60-second mark.
