Best for: Driveways, parking lots, cash registers, and baby monitors.
Implementation checks:
Level the Base: Use the tripod’s bubble level (not the camera's). The ground axis must be true.
Mount & Rough Comp: Attach the camera. Turn on Live View. Display the Grid + Level.
Zero the Pan (X): Rotate until a horizontal line (horizon or table edge) matches the grid.
Zero the Tilt (Y): Adjust the tripod head so vertical lines (walls, trees) run parallel to the grid edges. Do not use the lens zoom to fix composition; move the tripod.
Lock the Nodal (Z): If doing a multi-shot, verify the parallax test.
Focus the Depth: Magnify live view to 200%. Set the focal plane using peaking.
Expose via Histogram (Not the Eye): Your eye lies about brightness. Trust the live view histogram to validate the exposure axis.
Shoot with Mirror Lockup / Electronic Shutter: Eliminate vibration on the Z-axis.
