Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 2: Battle Nexus - A Turtle-ly Awesome Adventure
When the early 2000s rolled around, the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles were in the middle of a major renaissance. The 2003 animated series on Fox Box was a darker, sharper, more serialized take on the heroes in a half-shell, moving away from the campy “Turtle Power” of the 80s. To accompany this revival, Konami—a studio synonymous with classic TMNT arcade beat ‘em ups—was tasked with bringing this new vision to home consoles.
Secret Origins: Upon returning to Earth, the Utroms use a virtual reality machine to show the Turtles their true history. They learn that their arch-nemesis, The Shredder, is actually a rogue Utrom named Ch'rell who crashed on Earth centuries ago in Feudal Japan.
Upon release, critics were lukewarm. IGN gave it a 6.5/10, praising the co-op and unlockables but lambasting the camera. GameSpot called it "a step backward from the first game." Commercially, it sold decently on the back of the cartoon’s popularity but was quickly overshadowed by TMNT: Mutant Melee.
