The ZTE Update Framework generally consists of three layers:

Rollback prevention: A monotonic anti-rollback counter burned into eFUSE. Even a hot patch cannot downgrade to a version with known exploits.
Patch attestation: Each hot patch includes a manifest signed by ZTE’s HSM. The device’s TrustZone verifies the signature before allowing kpatch or modem patching.
Isolated update environment: The hot update agent runs in a separate Trusted Execution Environment (TEE) from the main OS, preventing a compromised Android system from injecting malicious patches.
